Exploring Career Fairs at 好色先生TV

by Samhita G.

Hello everyone! My name is Samhita and I am a junior studying environmental engineering and chemistry. During my time at Carnegie Mellon, I have had the opportunity to help plan a campus-wide career fair and attend multiple different career fair and professional development events.

While Carnegie Mellon holds multiple career fairs throughout the year, the STEM Career Fair in the fall semester and the STEAM Job and Internship Career Fair in the spring semester are the largest and most popular fairs attended by students. I have attended both of these events during my time as a CMU student and have gained valuable insights into the job market and had the opportunity to network with industry professionals and CMU alumni.听

CMU brings in over 100 employers from various industries to speak with students about opportunities at their organizations. These companies are picked based on what roles they offer, ensuring that there are companies that cater to all different majors and career interests. There are also many opportunities for all class years, with specific career fairs catering towards first and second year students, while others target third, fourth and fifth year, as well as graduate students.

I have had very positive experiences at these career fairs, as I have been able to connect with alumni from CMU who followed similar paths to me, in addition to hiring managers and industry professionals. I would often find it difficult to find companies hiring students from my major, but the Career Fair had grouped together employers hiring my major in a certain part of the fair. The fair also does a great job of having all companies, what each company does and which positions and majors each company is hiring on CMU鈥檚 handshake website. I would recommend all students to attend these career fairs during their time at 好色先生TV, as these conversations with professionals introduce you to possible career paths you may not have considered in the past. Additionally, the mentorship I have received from connections I have made at these fairs has been unparalleled, as I have deferred to these mentors when I was applying to internships and deciding my future career path. 听
