Elementary Arabic Online II

Course Number: 82-116

This course is a second-semester Arabic that builds on Elementary Arabic I. It is for learners who have completed a first-semester Arabic or its equivalent and wish to learn Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) اللغة العربية الفصحى / al-luġa al-ʿarabiyya al-fuṣḥā, the language form used for reading, formal writing and formal speaking (for example, in formal news media, lectures, religious sermons, etc...) and the Egyptian مصري and/or Levantine شامي dialects.

This course continues to introduce students to Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) to achieve communicative competence at the Novice-High/Intermediate-Low level in all language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). The course covers five lessons of an interactive online textbook designed for second-semester Arabic.

The online textbook contains all necessary audio-visuals, digital narratives, practice exercises, culture and assessments. No need to purchase any supplementary material. This course follows a flipped-learning design. Students are responsible for preparation of the assigned modules before class, allowing to dedicate class time to active communication and skills-based practice in writing, reading, speaking and listening.
