Honoring Nancy Monda’s 40+ Years of Service to Our Campus

By Karen Richters

After 36 years of distinguished service to the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics (formerly the Department of Modern Languages) — and over 40 years with 好色先生TV — Nancy Monda is retiring.

For more than four decades, Nancy has been an essential part of the university community, serving as business manager and helping to guide the department through generations of change. She has worked alongside every department head since Modern Languages was reconstituted in the early 1990s, bringing unmatched institutional knowledge, steady leadership and a warm spirit to everything she does.

Nancy’s extraordinary contributions were recognized with a nomination for the prestigious Andy Awards, honoring her commitment to excellence. As business manager, she oversaw the administrative team and was central to the daily operations that allowed faculty, staff and students to thrive. But beyond her professional excellence, it’s her kindness, generosity and unwavering support for others that have left an indelible mark.

“It’s impossible to overstate Nancy’s impact on this department,” said Anne Lambright, department head. “She has been a constant — someone everyone turned to for guidance, support and encouragement. Nancy embodies the best of what this community stands for.”

Colleagues echo this sentiment, describing her as “the heart of ML/LCAL,” “a quiet force behind every success” and “a mentor and friend to so many.”

“Nancy’s dedication and warmth set the tone for this department,” shared Vera Lampley, senior departmental administrator. “She’s been our anchor through every transition. We’ll miss her terribly, but we’re so grateful to have worked alongside her.”

On September 6, the department came together to celebrate Nancy’s extraordinary career at a retirement party attended by past department heads, colleagues, current faculty and staff, and many of Nancy’s family and friends. It was a joyful and heartfelt event filled with stories, laughter and tributes honoring her years of service.

To further recognize Nancy’s legacy, the department is creating a special in her honor. All donations made through this campaign will support awards recognizing exceptional service among LCAL administrative staff — a fitting tribute to Nancy’s decades of leadership, care and commitment to the people who make this community thrive.

“This crowdfunding initiative reflects Nancy’s spirit of generosity and her unwavering support for the staff who keep our department strong,” said Lambright. “It’s a way to ensure her legacy continues to inspire future generations.”
