Media Advisory: Carnegie Mellon's Information Networking Institute To Showcase New Book About Students Working in Developing Countries

Event: ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV students are hard-wired for giving. That's the message of a new book, "Geeks On A Mission," authored by Alex Hills (right), a distinguished service professor at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV. The book reveals the challenges students faced as they worked on technology projects in developing countries in the university's program. One student featured in the book is a graduate of CMU's (INI).

"This is a wonderful example of how our students are using their skills and business acumen to solve problems of poverty and health issues for people in emerging countries," said Dena Haritos Tsamitis, INI director and director of education, training and outreach for CMU CyLab. The CMU students join more than 64 million Americans who have donated an estimated 171 billion volunteer hours into various global projects since 2011.

A second group of INI alumni, Abhishek Dubey and Anmol Misra, will discuss their new book "Android Security, Attacks and Defenses," which shows how vulnerable consumer smartphones are to cyber attacks.
