Planning Information for Families & Guests
We look forward to welcoming family and friends to CMU’s campus for Commencement, May 8–10, 2026.
As you plan for commencement weekend, please note that events will take place beginning Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10.
Bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree candidates and their guests are invited to join the main commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 10, for the conferral of all degrees.
Additionally, each college/school/department will host a diploma ceremony to recognize all graduating students. Diploma ceremonies will be held over the course of the weekend (Friday, May 8–Sunday, May 10).

Please be sure to review the website of the U.S. Embassy nearest to you to get current information and visa requirements.
Applying for a B-2 tourist visa?
Review the OIE website for helpful information.
Additional supporting evidence for international guests may be needed. These may be in the form of:
- An Enrollment Verification Letter, which may be requested through (login required)
- A printout from the commencement website
These documents can be used to convey to the U.S. consular office the need for a timely visa decision.
