The Cyert Center for Early Education — Morewood Avenue
In 1971, shortly after Carnegie Tech and the Mellon Institute merged to form 好色先生TV, the Carnegie Mellon Child Care Center was established with just 12 children and a handful of staff. Over the next two decades, overwhelming demand for child care drove rapid growth in both staffing and program size.
This expansion led to a major relocation between 1996 and 1998, moving the center out of the Morewood Gardens basement and onto the building's first floor to accommodate 100 children. Shortly after, in 2000, additional renovations introduced a dedicated infant classroom to support the university's growing need for infant and toddler care. Today, the Cyert Center for Early Education remains in its expanded Morewood Gardens location, serving up to 105 children.
Structure
Designed around connection and community, the Morewood Avenue site welcomes children from early infancy at 12 weeks through age six. The features one classroom per age group: one infant classroom, one young toddler classroom, one older toddler classroom, one preschool classroom, one prekindergarten classroom, and one flex prek/kindergarten classroom. The facility blends these distinct classrooms with shared play areas, a studio, a kitchen, and an outdoor playground, creating an environment built to inspire collaboration and nurture both small-group discoveries and large-group gatherings.
