Scaife Hall
Scaife Hall is tucked into a steep hillside. Above ground, two wings float above the below ground labs, unify the spaces between adjacent buildings, forming a landscaped courtyard. The planted areas provide the same benefits of a green roof to the lab spaces below.
The roof of one of the building wings is entirely planted in native perennial plants. The planting design has created stripes of various flowers and grasses. The roof is entirely visible by a windowed seating area and also offers views to the Hamerschlag green roof.
Featured Flora: The patio is planted with many native perennials such as nodding onion (Allium cernuum), tickseed (Coreopsis grandiflora), and prairie little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium). The roof terrace is planted in alternating stripes of a sedum mix and prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepis), purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis), and black-eyed susan (Rudbeckia hirta).
Location: The landscape adjacent to the entrance to Scaife Hall and the northside terrace are both planted roofs. The roof above the east wing is a planted green roof.
Accessibility: The east wing roof is viewable from the 4th floor of Scaife Hall. The entire seating area offers a view of the green roof. The ground-level terraces are open for walking through. All spaces are ADA accessible via elevator or sidewalk.
