Pittsburgh Regional Transit & Campus Transportation

Campus Shuttle & NightSafe Transit

The university operates two separate transportation systems for the convenience and safety of students, faculty and staff – the Shuttle Service and NightSafe Transit. The shuttle service runs two different routes, one that travels through the Oakland area of the city and has multiple stops, and a second that travels to the Pittsburgh Technology Center (PTC) in Hazelwood. A valid Carnegie Mellon ID Card is required in order to use the Shuttle Service. It is available to students, faculty, and staff cardholders. NightSafe Transit is an evening and night-time transportation service that operates from 6:30 p.m. to 4:15 a.m. The mission of NightSafe Transit is to get CMU community members home safely by transporting them to the intersection nearest their residence.

For more information about these services, please visit the Transportation Services website.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT)

Beginning April 6, 2026, eligible CMU faculty, staff and students not graduating in spring 2026, must use the PRT Ready2Ride mobile app to ride PRT vehicles for free.
