Command Philosophy
It is my honor and privilege to be your commanding officer. Together, we PREPARE OUR NATION'S FUTURE LEADERS to fight and win the conflicts they will face. The ideals listed below have served well over my career and will help us to achieve these goals.
EMBODY TACTICAL AND TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE- We have not been tasked to close with and engage an enemy here, yet we can still exemplify excellence in leadership and management. Be outstanding examples of leadership. Know how your community operates and organizes. Run efficient and effective meetings. Communicate clearly and precisely. Build an educational foundation that will carry you through your career.
BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND EACH OTHER- Our Navy and Marine Corps team will fail without absolute honesty and integrity through all levels of the chain of command. This includes being honest with yourself if you are not ready for a task or uncertain about circumstances. Mistakes are how we learn. Never be afraid to bring an honest mistake to light. If you choose to falsify reports or lie about an issue, you jeopardize our organization and erode its effectiveness. Communicate problems early so that we can address them early.
BE BOLD- Whether driving a ship, leading a platoon, flying an aircraft, or prescribing a corrective maintenance action, think and act in strong and decisive measures. This is not a license for excess, irresponsibility, or not employing good judgment. This is a warning against half-hearted gestures, or worse, inaction.
BRING EVERYONE HOME- We are a family, nothing less. We must care about each other accordingly. We look out for each other, professionally and personally. Build relationships that will last through and beyond your career.
We hold the future of our armed forces in our hands. Our future officers will lead the Fleet and Marine Corps based on how we have trained and developed them. Never forget that we are building officers to go into harm's way, to move towards the sound of guns. Let us not fail them.
I remain humbled by your dedication and sacrifice.
