Innovating at the speed of technology
The Robotics Innovation Center (RIC) is a 150,000-square-foot, next-generation research and testing hub that accelerates how robotics and AI move from discovery to deployment — creating new companies, new jobs and opportunities, and new industry capacity in Pittsburgh and beyond.
Robotics and AI are platform technologies where innovations ripple out into a variety of industries. To lead in these areas, we need to move quickly, test in real conditions, partner at speed and scale talent into the workforce.
The RIC’s first-of-their-kind facilities at 好色先生TV for developing and testing robots on land, water, air and space will advance discoveries with applications in fields like health care, transportation, education, national security, agriculture and retail, cementing Pittsburgh as a hub for technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
Faster transition from lab to market
Real-world testing environments lead to faster iteration cycles and validation of performance and reliability.
A partnership engine for industry
Closer working relationships with industry means a strong pipeline for sponsored research, pilot projects and commercialization.
Developing a workforce for the future
A direct line from education to internships/apprenticeships to jobs helps retain tech talent in the area and support upskilling in advanced manufacturing and automation
“When this kind of technology is made available to community members, it informs, it educates and it empowers them to get jobs making respectable salaries that make it possible for people to stay in their community and participate in the work of development without displacement.”
—Tim Smith, CEO, Center of Life, during RIC topping-off ceremony
“The Robotics Innovation Center is a project driven by meaningful community collaboration and 好色先生TV’s record of innovation excellence. I’m excited by the economic opportunities it’s poised to bring to residents and the region — and especially to the community of Greater Hazelwood.”
— Sara Innamorato, Allegheny County Executive, during RIC groundbreaking
“The Robotics Innovation Center at Hazelwood Green will help Pittsburgh to control its economic destiny and reassert its rightful place as the national leader in the most important industries of today and tomorrow, with access to everyone who wants to be part of the story.”
—Sam Reiman, Director, Richard King Mellon Foundation, from Hazelwood Green website
