Mellon Institute

Mellon Institute’s green roof is installed on lower roof areas divided by a central hallway of the building. To construct the roof, the only access to each roof was through the windows that ran along that hallway. During installation, new roofing material and any debris to be removed had to be handed through the windows and taken down through the building in the freight elevator. The roof is planted in a tray system, installed by . The trays arrived at the project already planted, allowing for the entire roof to be installed in a single day.

Featured Flora: Sedum floriferum 'Weihenstephaner Gold,' commonly known as “stonecrop,” was pre-planted in each tray before installation.

Location: Roof of the 4th floor connecting hallway

Accessibility: The Mellon Hall green roof is not accessible, but can be viewed from the interior windows of the building’s upper floors.
