Explore their work spanning disciplines, reaching into industries and communities, and inspiring innovation and growth.Â
Research Institutes, Centers and Initiatives
Dietrich College is home to more than 20 interdisciplinary research institutes, centers and initiatives. These vibrant hubs unite scholars to address society’s most pressing challenges — from AI ethics and urban inequality to climate and culture change.
Undergraduate Research Resources
Our rigorous Senior Honors Program offers students the opportunity to pursue a year-long, faculty-guided independent research project. Students design and complete projects that demonstrate deep insight and creativity, whether in the humanities, social sciences or interdisciplinary spaces. It’s a true capstone experience and a launchpad into graduate research or industry.
A head start for students enrolled in the Senior Honors Program, the Dietrich Honors Fellowship Program provides selected juniors with funding and faculty support to begin their senior thesis research over the summer.
Fellows use this time to explore, investigate and lay the groundwork for a full year of scholarly or creative work culminating in an original, honors-level thesis.
The Dietrich College Research Training Program is a one-semester research apprenticeship in which early career students (second-semester first-year students or sophomores) can work directly with faculty on active research projects.
It’s a hands-on, mentored opportunity to gain valuable experience, build curiosity and uncover what research looks like day to day.
Graduate Student Research Funding
CMU’s research grants empower graduate students to bring their ideas to life, offering vital support for early career scholarship. These opportunities help graduate students push disciplinary and creative boundaries, explore their academic interests and make meaningful contributions to their fields.
Speaker Series
We live in a complex world. At Dietrich College, we meet it with research, reflection and public conversation. Our speaker series help unpack the ideas that shape society and encourage participants to engage in viewpoints other than their own.
