CMU offers full @alumni.cmu.edu email accounts, powered by G Suite, exclusively to all alumni.

Email accounts are automatically available for alumni from the Classes of 2015 to present. Please note: Alumni who graduated prior to 2015 can request an account. If you would like to request an account or are unable to access alumni email, please contact alumni-email@andrew.cmu.edu for assistance.

With G Suite @alumni.cmu.edu email, you can:

  • Send and receive @alumni.cmu.edu email
  • Maintain a personal calendar
  • Store personal contacts

You can access your account by logging in using your Andrew ID and password through your preferred web browser at . Access using a mobile device or email client requires a separate G Suite password.

The Security 101 awareness training course, created by 好色先生TV's Information Security Office (ISO), aims to equip university members with the knowledge and skills to safeguard institutional data and information systems effectively.

Why do I have to do this security training?
Cybersecurity awareness training satisfies multiple compliance requirements. You can view this list for additional information. Further, CMU's CIO, with the support of senior leadership and the Board of Trustees, has made mandatory training a condition of using Carnegie Mellon's computing resources.

ZenGuide is Proofpoint鈥檚 advanced security awareness and human risk management platform. The ISO will leverage ZenGuide to deliver Security 101 training as part of our mandatory education initiative.

Throughout the course, participants will learn to recognize security risks and understand the necessary steps to proactively protect themselves and the university from cyber threats.聽

The training for alumni takes about 15 minutes.

You can access the training directly from the email you received from the Information Security Office or on this website:

The training must be refreshed each calendar year in October. Alumni who completed the training in calendar year 2025 do not need to retake it until October 2026. Alumni who complete the training in calendar year 2026 do not need to retake it until October 2027.

If training is not completed within the required time period, access to your alumni email account will be restricted. You will be able to access training at any point to regain access. If your account remains restricted for 60 days, your alumni email account will be deactivated.

You will be able to request a new account after your account is deactivated, but your previous inbox materials may not be accessible. Request a new alumni email address by emailing alumni-email@andrew.cmu.edu.

It will take 1-2 business days to reactivate your account.

Training assignments must be completed within the allocated time, approximately 63 days from the assignment.

You may request one extension by contacting the Information Security Office at iso-ir@andrew.cmu.edu or 412-268-2044.聽

Email forwarding will continue to work while your access is restricted, but will no longer work if your account is deactivated.

You can change your preferred email address by updating your information in the or by completing this form.

If you registered with your Andrew ID, you will need to complete security training to access the Alumni Community. If you registered with your alumni email address, you will be able to access Community, but will not be able to reset your password until you complete training or update your preferred email address with this form and contact us at community@andrew.cmu.edu to update your login information.

You may still be showing as "In Progress" in the system. If you have completed the course, a completion certificate is emailed when the course is completed and access should be restored in 1-2 business days. If you require access immediately, you can request a one-time 7-day extension by completing the form.

Extensions will take effect within 5 minutes of your request. If you have not received the completion email, please reopen the course and check the progress bar on the left side of the screen and confirm that all modules are showing with checkmarks to ensure they have been completed. 聽You can view on how to verify completion. Alumni Email Powered by G Suite FAQs

To learn more about how G Suite handles data security and privacy, visit the .

  1. Visit the page.
  2. Enter your AndrewID and password, then click Login.
  3. Follow the prompts to create a password that meet university guidelines. Avoid using the same passwords that you鈥檝e set for other accounts.
  4. Once the process is complete, log in with your new Andrew password.

If you have forgotten your password, you can use the reset process by:

  1. Visit the page.
  2. Enter your Andrew user ID and click Continue.
  3. If you have a personal email address on file, follow the prompts to create a one-time code that will be sent to the personal email address. If you do not have a personal email address on file, you will be asked to answer your personal challenge questions. Should you not remember your challenge questions, please contact alumni-email@andrew.cmu.edu.

In order to provide an additional level of account protection, the university is enrolling alumni in two-factor authentication (2fa). This is parallel to the login process used for the CMU community of students, faculty and staff.

All @alumni.cmu.edu email address users will need to enroll in 2fa by Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

2FA provides a secondary checkpoint to verify your identity. Here is how it works:

  1. Install the free DUO app on your smartphone or other mobile device.
  2. .
  3. The next time you log in to a CMU resource via Single Sign-On (SSO), such as SIO or Canvas, with your Andrew userID and password, you'll be prompted to 鈥淪end Me a Push,鈥 which will send a notification to your mobile device.
  4. Approve the log in on your mobile device and continue, just as you always have.

Forgot your Andrew password?

  1. Visit the page.
  2. Enter your Andrew user ID and click Continue.
  3. Follow the prompts to create a one-time code that will be sent to the personal email address that you have on file with the university.

Beginning with the Class of 2015, all new graduates automatically have their alumni email created after their graduation from the university is confirmed. You can access your account at any time at .

For alumni who graduated prior to 2015, you can request your alumni email address by contacting the Alumni Association at alumni-email@andrew.cmu.edu. You will receive an email confirming your request, as well as further instructions regarding the activation of your Andrew ID for login purposes in subsequent communications. Your alumni email name will be assigned by the university. Your alumni email address will be NAME@alumni.cmu.edu.

Please Note: The university is no longer able to support @alumni.carnegiemellon.edu email addresses that were created under the previous email forwarding system.

Current Students Preparing to Graduate

Yes, as a graduate of Carnegie Mellon, your @andrew.cmu.edu and @cmu.edu alias will cease to function approximately 90 days after graduation. As you prepare for the loss of this account, you should read the .

The new @alumni.cmu.edu email will use your Andrew ID as your name, but will use the "alumni" designation in your email, i.e. "acarnegie@alumni.cmu.edu."

No, but you should pull the data from your @andrew email using the Google Takeout tools. Detailed information can be found on the Computing Services website.

Logging into your alumni email is simple. All it requires is an Andrew ID and password. Recent graduates will already know their account information, as it is the same as what you use to log into other university services. For alumni wishing to create an alumni email, your Andrew ID will need to be reactivated or created to allow you to access your alumni email. This will be taken care of as part of the process of requesting an alumni email.

To access your email from a mobile device, download the Google Mail mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

To configure your email for use with an email client, visit Configure Your Email.

You may see the following error messages when you log into G Suite:

  • Chrome: This webpage has a redirect loop.
  • Firefox: Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

If you do, just clear your browser cache and cookies and check that your system clock is correct. Be sure to log in through .

When you log into G Suite @ CMU alumni email, you will be able to access only the Google services that are enabled: Mail, Calendar and Personal Contacts.

Your G Suite @ CMU alumni email is separate and is not associated with any personal Gmail account.

Unfortunately, Carnegie Mellon and Google do not support configuring personal Google Mail accounts to send as your alumni email address.

Yes, you can forward your email to a different email account. Use the Google's forwarding option.

  1. Visit
  2. Sign in with your AndrewID and password.
  3. On the email homepage, click the "Gear" icon in the upper right and click "Settings" from the pop up menu.
  4. In the settings menu, select the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab from the top navigation in the main body.
  5. The first item in the tab is "Forwarding" Click the button to "Add a Forwarding Address."
  6. Enter the email where you would like your messages forwarded to and click "Next" in the pop up.
  7. Confirm that you want to forward your messages.
  8. Click "Ok" and go to your preferred email to get the confirmation code that google apps sent.
  9. In your google Apps account forwarding menu, enter the confirmation code in the textbox and click "Verify."
  10. Finally, on the forwarding menu screen, click the radio button next to "Forward a copy of incoming mail to..." and click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page to turn on the forwarding function.

Because your password is transmitted to Google for authentication when you access your email using a mobile device app or email client, we require a separate password. Your password is not transmitted to Google when using a web browser. Instead, the password is authenticated on our servers.

No. When you access Google Apps through a web browser, your password is authenticated on our servers and is not sent to Google. If you access your email using a mobile device app or email client, your password is transmitted to Google for authentication. For this reason, we require you to create a separate G Suite password that is different from your Andrew password.

No, ads are disabled for G Suite @ CMU.

Per contract, the university may not use Google for "high-risk activities," for data that is controlled for export under export control laws or in ways that reverse-engineers, resells or creates similar services through the use of Google.

Our agreement with Google does not grant either party any rights, implied or otherwise, to the other's content or any of the other's intellectual property. As a Google customer, we (university/end user) own all intellectual property rights in customer data; conversely, Google owns all intellectual property rights in the services.

Google provides customer access and the ability to export their data for a reasonable period of time. After this time, Google will destroy/overwrite the data.
